Charles Bishop

Charles has studied mixed martial arts for 20 years, is the first black belt in jiu-jitsu ever from NESF, and has won countless grappling events. Prior to that, he was a wrestler since childhood. The two-year captain and MVP at STCC, with the most wins and pins in 2001, was an NJAA qualifier, and three-time New England All-Stars member. He’s a former wrestling coach at STCC, and has taught and coached at NESF since before some of the students today were born. His memory for techniques is not just photographic, it’s more like holographic, and he still works tirelessly to expand his knowledge. There is very nearly always a fundamental split in sports between the way the game is played by massive athletes, as opposed to small ones. In boxing, compare Tyson Fury to Manny Pacquiao. In American football, compare a lineman to a running back. Charles is a very large, very, very powerful fighter, but he possesses the technical knowledge and ability of an expert half his size, the seamless fusion of a railway locomotive with a race car.
