Our MMA classes may include a mixture of techniques from Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, and other practical styles.

One style by itself has proven to be no longer effective in the cage. One main focus in our Mixed Martial Arts classes is the fusion of techniques from all the styles we take from.

STANDUP STRIKING & CLINCHING (kickboxing)

Self-defense classes in Amherst, MA
If you have only boxing skills, you will get kicked, kneed, elbowed and taken down. If you have only Muay Thai skills, you will get punched and taken down. If you have only wrestling skills, you will get punched, kicked, kneed, and elbowed a lot.

No one art can stand on its own. This class has techniques from Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai & Wrestling.

Our Submission grappling (no-gi Jiu-Jitsu) classes focus on a mixed style that includes techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling, Sambo, Judo, and other grappling Martial Arts.

BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in Amherst, MA
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the ground fighting system that was introduced to the world by the Gracie family of Brazil in 1993 via UFC 1. It is practiced with a gi/kimono and is rooted in street self-defense and no-rules fighting applications as well as sport Jiu-Jitsu competitions.

These Jiu-Jitsu classes focus on a mixed style that includes techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Sambo, Judo, and other grappling martial arts. A gi/kimono is optional and not required.

TAKEDOWNS & THROWS

Wrestling classes in Amherst, MA
All fights/matches start standing. No matter how good you are on the ground, if you can't get your opponent there, it won't matter.

This fast-paced class focuses solely on getting the fight/match to the ground. A heavy taste of wrestling with some jiu-jitsu and no-gi judo sprinkled in.

NESF has been teaching MMA in Western MA since 1993, making it the oldest MMA school in New England in continuous operation.

We offer instruction in Mixed Martial Arts, a sport and approach to martial arts that draws the most effective techniques from Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Submission Grappling, and other practical combat styles.
