Treat everyone with equal respect, regardless of differences in race, creed, gender, nationality, religion, political views, sexual orientation, etc. If you have a personal problem with any individual, please address the issue privately to an instructor.
Please show respect by not talking to others when the instructor is teaching a technique to the class.
Please show respect by not showing “your version” of the technique to your training partner that was just taught by the instructor. If you would like to share your personal techniques with your training partner or anyone else, please wait until open mat time at the end of class.
Please keep conversations regarding politics or religion to a minimum. NESF is a drama-free zone.
Egos are not tolerated and will be stripped from offenders in quick fashion. NESF is an ego-free zone.
Your progress is not based on your ability to overcome a training partner or a competitive opponent, but rather on your capacity to engage in a cooperative training experience where the winner is whoever learns more during the training session.
Please remember that NESF members are your teammates and your training partners. They are not your opponents. When you train, train hard, but train safely. You want them to come back the next day to train with you, not stay home injured.
EQUIPMENT AND GEAR USAGE
If you use any gym equipment; gloves, pads, wraps during your training sessions, weights, weight bench, etc, please put them back where you found them.
All NESF members should wear comfortable but non-revealing and non-see-through attire. There are bright fluorescent lights in the workout area and that makes things a lot more visible.
If you are unsure, hold your clothing up to a bright light and stretch it out just a little. If you can see objects through the material, it is too thin to wear on the mats.
If you are wearing shorts, please make sure they are board shorts or something similar. Compression shorts are highly recommended to wear underneath your shorts/spats/pants.
If you are still unsure, ask an instructor.
Remove all jewelry. Jewelry can be accidentally ripped off or cut your partner.
HEALTH AND HYGIENE
Please keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed so that you don’t cut your training partner. Many needless injuries happen because of long nails.
Long hair should be tied up into a tight pony-tail or something similar.
Remove all transferable cosmetics. These things aren’t needed during class time and cosmetics can stain your partner’s clothing.
You don’t need to shower before class, but please try to keep from smelling like a Porta-potty. Your training partners will appreciate it.
Make sure you shower no more than 1 hour after class. Not showering after class may put you at risk of catching any number of skin infections, that can easily be avoided by showering. We recommend the following: www.defensesoap.com
If you think you MIGHT have any of the following ailments, we recommend that you get it checked out and NOT come to class until you are cleared by your doctor to do so.
(Or anything else that you wouldn’t want to bring home yourself.)
CHANGING ROOMS AND BATHROOM
Please clean up after yourself before returning to class. This includes Washing your hands before returning to the mat from the bathroom, leaving your dirty towel in the changing room, clogging the toilet, etc.
Anyone caught stealing from NESF or any NESF member will be delimbed and sent packing and the police will be called. We’ll tell them you ‘fell’.
